FL-24: Feeney Pumps Out Robocalls on Behalf of Clint Curtis

Democrats really only have one shot at beating scandal-tainted GOP Rep. Tom Feeney, and that’s by nominating a Democrat who has put together the resources and infrastructure that it takes to win. In this case, it’s former state Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, who has raised over $1.2 million for her campaign to date.

Tom Feeney would desperately love to avoid facing her in November, which is why he’s going to great lengths to lend an assist to Kosmas’ primary challenger, 2006 loser Clint Curtis, a candidate with all but $7,000 in the bank. The Orlando Sentinel has the gory deets:

Democrat Clint Curtis may have a new friend in Republican congressman Tom Feeney.

The third-term lawmaker from Oviedo — who defeated Curtis in 2006 – has been making robo-calls on behalf of Curtis, who is running for the US House again as an underdog in the Democratic primary against former state lawmaker Suzanne Kosmas.

In calls to Central Florida residents, a spokeswoman for the Feeney campaign lauds Curtis and calls him the “only Democrat taking on Tom Feeney that has consistently opposed the war in Iraq.” At the end of the call, the spokeswoman said the calls were “paid for by Tom Feeney for Congress.”

Even with Feeney propping him up, it’s hard to see a path for victory for Curtis, a guy who has only raised $80K for his campaign since the start of 2007, and one who isn’t treated seriously by the local media.

Primary: August 26th

  1. Trust me, I know Suzanne Kosmas and have seen her ground game in action.  She will win the primary huge, it’s just a matter of how huge.  I’d say the over under for her is 75% against Curtis.  Clint Curtis is a complete joke.

If Feeney is wasting his precious campaign funds on such absurdities I encourage him to continue.  There are far better thingshe could do with his funds than these pointless robo-calls.

  2. This is just the usual political hype that means nothing. Kosmas has more than once shown herself and just how self centered she really is. She says that she was against the war and yet voted for it. She says that she is for the people and yet voted against the living wage. She says that she wants to save our planet and yet she voted against the environmental people at every turn. She claims she is for equal right and yet she and her white crony buddies voted against a black man  named Willie Logan just read some of the floowing comments and how people felt about that!

NASA is important . However , I still can not get over how then State Representative Suzanne Kosmas treated a fellow Democrat during her tenure in the Fla. House . She voted and worked to oust the 1st possible African American Speaker of the Fla. Legislature since Reconstruction , and has never acknowledged nor accepted responsibility for this action , I would just like to ask her why she would do such an act ? I wonder where she stands with respect to Obama , and now she wants us , African Americans , to help her get to Congress . A person can not change their character . She will not be get much support from the Afican American community unless she addresses this issue , waiting !

Been reading about Rep. Kosmas and how she disrespected us , Afican Americans , by voting to remove Willie Logan an African American as the Democratic Leader of the Florida House of Representatives . Why would she do that ? Is this what we can expect if she goes to Washington ?

    I can answer that, YES!

She is another do nothing unless she gets money for it politician. She holds fundraisers and her staff calls everyone to see how much money they plan to contribute the day before the event so they can start counting their dollars. Yeah I want another millionaire snob in office representing me. If she wins the primary my family and I have decided that we are done voting. We will not vote for her in the general, we won’t vote for Feeney either but We will never cast a vote for her.

    1. I believe my local paper (one of the most liberal in the country) the Daytona Beach News-Journal, did not endorse Curtis in 2006.  As James L. says, the guy comes across as a crackpot.  Some of his claims are just bizarre.  Curtis’s claim that he busting up a Chinese spy ring seems to be the most far-fetched.

Curtis took 42% of the vote by virtue of being a Democrat in a very pro-Democratic year.  Hell, I probably could have won 42%+ of the vote without campaigning.
